As competition in the Australian car market heats up, manufacturers are offering more than just sharp pricing to attract buyers. One of the biggest ownership perks brands are using to stand out is extended new car warranties—giving buyers peace of mind for longer.

In 2025, several car makers have pushed their warranty periods beyond the industry standard of five years, with some now offering up to 10 years of coverage.

So, which brands have the longest new car warranties in Australia this year? Let’s break it down.

    🚗 Nissan – 10 Years / 300,000km

📅 Effective from: January 1, 2025 ✅ Longest new car warranty in Australia 🔧 Condition: Must be serviced at Nissan dealerships

Nissan has taken the crown in 2025 by introducing an industry-leading 10-year/300,000km warranty—the most extensive in the country.

However, there’s a catch: owners must service their vehicles at Nissan dealerships to maintain the extended warranty. If they choose an independent mechanic, the coverage reverts to five years/unlimited km.

Interestingly, Nissan is also offering this extended warranty retroactively to vehicles purchased since January 1, 2021, provided they’ve been serviced within the dealer network.

    🚗 MG – 10 Years / 250,000km

📅 Effective from: August 1, 2024 ⚡ Covers petrol, hybrid, and electric models 🚫 Commercial vehicles limited to 7 years / 160,000km

Before Nissan’s new offer, MG had the longest new car warranty in Australia. It remains one of the best, covering petrol, hybrid, and electric vehicles for up to 10 years or 250,000km.

However, commercial-use vehicles only receive seven years/160,000km of coverage.

    🚗 Mitsubishi – 10 Years / 200,000km

📅 Introduced in: 2020 🔧 Condition: Must be serviced at Mitsubishi dealerships

Mitsubishi was the first brand in Australia to offer a 10-year warranty back in 2020. However, much like Nissan, this only applies if the vehicle is serviced through an authorised Mitsubishi dealer.

If an owner chooses an independent workshop, the warranty drops to five years/100,000km.

    🚗 XPeng – 10 Years / 220,000km (Limited Offer)

📅 Applies to G6 EVs purchased before June 30, 2025 ⚡ Includes 8-year battery warranty 🚫 Not available for fleet or corporate buyers

XPeng, a newcomer to the Australian market, is offering a limited-time 10-year/220,000km warranty for buyers of its G6 electric SUV before June 30, 2025.

After this date, XPeng’s standard five-year/120,000km warranty will apply.

    🚗 Jaecoo – 8 Years / Unlimited km

🌍 Chery's premium SUV brand 🔁 Warranty stays with the vehicle, regardless of ownership

Jaecoo, a subsidiary of Chery, has launched in Australia with an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for its J7 SUV.

Unlike some competitors, this warranty stays with the vehicle for its entire lifespan—even if the car changes owners.

    🚗 GWM/Haval – 7 Years / Unlimited km

📅 Applies to vehicles purchased after October 1, 2018 🚫 Commercial vehicles limited to 7 years / 150,000km

GWM (Great Wall Motors) and its Haval SUV range offer a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, covering private buyers, fleets, and government vehicles.

However, commercial-use vehicles (e.g., rental cars, taxis) have a 150,000km cap.

    🚗 Kia – 7 Years / Unlimited km

📅 Introduced in: 2014 📉 No plans to extend beyond 7 years

Kia was a pioneer in offering longer warranties, launching its seven-year/unlimited-km coverage in 2014.

Despite newer brands offering 10-year warranties, Kia has no plans to extend its coverage, with the company stating that warranty length is no longer a top priority for buyers.

🔎 Final Thoughts: Is a Longer Warranty Always Better?

While a long warranty provides peace of mind, it’s important to read the fine print. Many 10-year warranties (like Nissan and Mitsubishi) require dealer servicing to stay valid.

If you’re someone who prefers to service your car independently, a brand with an unconditional warranty (like Jaecoo or Kia) may be a better option.

Regardless of which car brand you choose, a strong warranty is a great way to ensure years of worry-free driving. 🚗🔧✅
