The Kia EV3: Kia’s Affordable and High-Performance Small Electric SUV Arrives in Australia
Kia’s newest addition to its electric vehicle lineup, the 2025 Kia EV3, has officially launched in Australia, and it’s already generating plenty of buzz. This compact electric SUV is set to redefine the entry-level electric car market, offering Australians an affordable and efficient EV option. The lineup includes an exciting array of options, but that's not all. Kia Australia has confirmed that even more performance-focused variants, including a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) and a high-performance GT version, will join the range in the near future.
The EV3 Lineup
The 2025 Kia EV3 is currently available in four distinct models, featuring both standard and long-range battery options. At its core, the EV3 promises excellent affordability while maintaining practicality and cutting-edge technology. The EV3 is equipped with a single-motor drivetrain, offering 150kW of power and 283Nm of torque, perfect for daily commuting and city driving.
With a choice of two battery sizes, the Standard Range provides a claimed WLTP range of up to 436km, while the Long Range extends that impressive figure to 604km, making it one of the most efficient electric vehicles in its class.
Pricing for the EV3 starts from $47,600 before on-road costs, or $48,990 drive-away (excluding Western Australia), making it Kia’s most affordable EV to date. The car is expected to sell around 400 units per month in its debut year, with the target of reaching 4,800 units annually. This makes the Kia EV3 a formidable contender in the competitive electric vehicle market, where it will be positioned against the popular BYD Atto 3, which sold 5,751 units in 2024.
Exciting Dual-Motor and GT Versions Coming Soon
Although the current lineup offers impressive features, Kia’s future plans for the EV3 are even more thrilling. Roland Rivero, Kia Australia's General Manager for Product Planning, has confirmed that dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) and high-performance GT versions will also be available. However, these variants are not expected to arrive in Australia until 2026.
The upcoming EV3 AWD will feature the larger 81.4kWh Long Range battery pack and is expected to offer enhanced performance and better traction. The EV3 GT, the high-performance variant, is set to target a sub-6.0-second 0-100km/h acceleration time, which is slightly slower than the impressive sub-4.0-second times of the larger EV6 GT and EV9 GT models. But rest assured, these models are still under development, and Kia may fine-tune the drivetrain for even greater power and performance.
Both the dual-motor and GT variants are anticipated to boast up to 250kW of power, significantly enhancing the driving experience. These variants will surely cater to those who want a more thrilling driving experience while still enjoying the benefits of an electric SUV.
