The second-generation 2026 MG 4 EV has been officially revealed, bringing a fresh new design to MG’s popular electric hatchback. Just three years after the original model launched, this completely redesigned MG 4 is set to shake up the electric vehicle (EV) market with smoother styling, advanced technology, and improved dimensions.

At Tynan MG Sutherland, we’re excited to see how this new model will build on the success of the current MG 4, which has been a favourite among Aussie EV buyers.

    What’s New in the 2026 MG 4?

🔹 Sleeker, rounder styling inspired by the upcoming MG S5 SUV 🔹 New arrow-shaped tail-lights, similar to the MG Cyberster convertible 🔹 Larger dimensions – more space for passengers and cargo 🔹 Charging port moved to the front for added convenience

The 2026 MG 4 now measures 4395mm long, 1842mm wide, and 1551mm tall, making it larger than the current model and comparable to a Toyota Corolla or Mazda 3 hatch.

Under the bonnet (or more accurately, under the floor), the MIIT database lists a 120kW single electric motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack, though MG may offer multiple powertrain options—including a high-performance variant similar to the current 300kW MG 4 XPower.

Will the 2026 MG 4 Keep Its Performance DNA?

The biggest question remains whether the new MG 4 will continue to use MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), which underpins the current MG 4, MG S5 SUV, and Cyberster convertible. The relocation of the charging port to the front suggests possible platform changes, but full specifications have yet to be confirmed.

Given the current MG 4’s rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options, we expect MG to continue delivering engaging driving dynamics and impressive efficiency.

MG 4: A Success Story in Australia

While sales of MG’s electric vehicles have been slower in China, the MG 4 has been a strong performer in Australia. In February 2025, the MG 4 was the third highest-selling EV in the country, with 451 deliveries, trailing only the Tesla Model Y (924) and Model 3 (668) but ahead of rivals like the MG ZS EV (432) and Kia EV5 (400).

With a starting price of $34,888 drive-away, the current MG 4 remains one of the most affordable and well-equipped EVs on the market. The redesigned 2026 MG 4 is expected to build on this success with an even more competitive package.

When Will the 2026 MG 4 Arrive in Australia?

While MG Australia has yet to confirm launch details, we anticipate the new MG 4 to arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. More details, including technical specs and interior images, are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

At Tynan MG Sutherland, we’ll keep you updated on pricing, features, and arrival dates as soon as they become available!
