MG Expands Its Lineup with the Seven-Seat QS SUV – Coming Soon to Tynan MG Sutherland
If you’ve been waiting for an MG SUV with more than five seats, your time has finally arrived! The all-new MG QS is set to launch in Australia later this year, marking MG’s entry into the large, three-row SUV market.
Spotted testing in New South Wales, the MG QS will make its public debut in Melbourne on April 5-6, ahead of its official launch in winter 2025 (June to August).
A Larger, More Spacious MG SUV
The MG QS is MG’s biggest SUV yet for Australia, positioned above the MG HS. It shares much of its design and engineering with the MG RX9, which is already available in markets like the Middle East and Mexico.
Here’s how the MG QS stacks up against its key competitors:
Model | Length | Width | Height | Wheelbase |
---|---|---|---|---|
MG QS | 4983mm | 1967mm | 1778mm | 2915mm |
Toyota Kluger | 4966mm | 1930mm | 1755mm | 2850mm |
Kia Sorento | 4815mm | 1900mm | 1700mm | 2815mm |
With its longer wheelbase and wider stance, the MG QS promises a spacious and comfortable cabin for families needing extra room.
Performance & Drivetrain Options
The MG QS will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 153kW of power and approximately 350Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and will be available in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
🔹 Towing Capacity: 2000kg (braked) 🔹 Wheel Options: 20-inch standard, 21-inch optional 🔹 Suspension: McPherson strut front & multi-link rear
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant has been trademarked, but is yet to be confirmed for Australia.
Tech-Packed Interior & Safety Features
While Australian specifications haven’t been officially confirmed, overseas models of the MG RX9 (on which the QS is based) include:
✅ Dual 12.3-inch digital displays (one for the driver, one for infotainment) ✅ Optional third screen for the front passenger (China market only) ✅ Adaptive cruise control ✅ Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) ✅ Blind-spot monitoring & rear cross-traffic alert ✅ 360-degree surround-view camera ✅ Heated & ventilated power-adjustable seats with memory ✅ 12-speaker Bose sound system ✅ Panoramic sunroof
Interior Colour Options
While MG has traditionally stuck to black interiors in Australia, the QS could bring more variety, with lighter beige interiors offered overseas. MG has previously expressed interest in offering more colour choices for Australian buyers.
MG Enters the Large SUV Market
The MG QS represents new territory for MG in Australia, competing against well-established seven-seaters like the Toyota Kluger and Kia Sorento. It will also face competition from Chinese brands, including the upcoming Jaecoo J8 and Chery’s Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
When Can You See It?
🔹 April 5-6: Public debut in Melbourne 🔹 June – August 2025: Official launch in Australia
