Kia Unveils 2026 PV5 Electric Van: Versatility Meets Innovation
Kia has lifted the curtain on its highly-anticipated 2026 Kia PV5, a next-generation electric van designed to meet the needs of both businesses and families. Available in Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis Cab versions, the PV5 promises versatility, practicality, and an impressive driving range of up to 400km (WLTP).
Flexible Line-Up: Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis Cab
The PV5 range covers all bases, whether you need a comfortable people-mover, a capable workhorse, or a customisable chassis for specialised applications.
- Passenger Van: Designed with comfort and flexibility in mind, this version offers three rows of configurable seating, with second-row reclinable seats and fully removable seats for additional cargo space.
- Cargo Van: Built for work, this version maximises load space and offers a choice of three battery sizes, with a High Roof model boasting up to 5.1 cubic metres of storage capacity.
- Chassis Cab: The versatile Chassis Cab combines the front section of the Cargo Van with a flat rear structure, allowing for custom builds like refrigerated vans or specialised trade vehicles.
Power and Range Options
Kia has confirmed the PV5 will feature a 120kW/250Nm electric motor driving the front wheels. Buyers can choose between three battery options:
- 51.5kWh NCM battery
- 71.2kWh NCM battery (up to 400km range)
- 43.3kWh LFP battery (exclusive to the Cargo model)
The 71.2kWh battery can recharge from 10-80% in just 30 minutes using fast charging, making it ideal for busy fleets or road trips.
Modern Platform and Spacious Cabin
Built on Kia’s Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA), the PV5 benefits from a flexible skateboard platform that allows for various body styles while optimising interior space. Measuring 4695mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1899mm tall, the PV5 is shorter than rivals like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Ford E-Transit Custom, but still boasts a competitive 2995mm wheelbase.
Cargo Space Comparison
Model | Cargo Volume | |
---|---|---|
Kia PV5 High Roof | 5.1m³ | |
Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo | 3.9m³ | |
Ford E-Transit Custom | 6.5m³ |
Smart and Flexible Interior
The PV5’s cabin adopts an ‘open box’ design concept, maximising storage and flexibility. Modular features include:
- Removable front passenger seat for a 1-2-3 seating layout
- Flat stowage board for camping and road trips
- L-track mounting system for flexible tie-down points on the floor and ceiling
- Eco-friendly materials designed for easy cleaning
Tech-Focused Cabin
The driver’s area combines practicality with modern tech, featuring a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.9-inch central screen. The Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) powers the infotainment, offering over-the-air updates and access to a wide range of apps and services.
A digital key is also standard, making it easy to share access with drivers or family members.
Power On the Go
The PV5 also comes equipped with Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology, allowing you to power tools, equipment, or even campsite gear directly from the van’s battery.
Designed for the Future
In line with Kia’s push to double its electric vehicle sales in Australia, the PV5 is expected to play a key role in meeting the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) coming into effect in 2025.
Kia Australia has expressed strong interest in bringing the PV5 to local showrooms, but availability is likely from 2026 at the earliest. If approved, the PV5 will sit alongside the upcoming Kia Tasman ute, offering Australian customers both electric and traditional utility options.
Colour Options
The PV5 will be offered in a range of stylish exterior colours, including:
- Soft Mint Gloss
- Lakehouse Gray Gloss
- Frost Blue Gloss
Interior colours will complement these with options like Deep Navy, Dove Gray, Espresso Brown, Terracotta Brown, and Iceberg Green.
Final Thoughts
With its flexible configurations, practical design, and cutting-edge technology, the 2026 Kia PV5 promises to be a game-changer in both the commercial and passenger electric van segments. Whether you're running a fleet, ferrying passengers, or heading off on a weekend adventure, the PV5 offers a sustainable solution without compromising on space or convenience.
