Kia Teases First Global Electric Van: PV5 Set for 2025 Launch
Kia is gearing up for its first global electric commercial vehicle, confirming exciting new details about the upcoming Kia PV5 electric van, which is set to debut in 2025. As part of the brand's Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup, the PV5 is designed to compete with other electric vans like the Ford E-Transit and Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo.
Features and Performance
The PV5 promises to bring versatility and cutting-edge technology, with multiple configurations including Basic, Van, High Roof, and Chassis Cab models. Notably, it will support fast charging—up to 150kW via a DC connection and 22kW through AC—making it highly practical for businesses on the go. Plus, its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability will allow users to power external devices like tools or even fridges, adding flexibility for industries like delivery and trades.
A Glimpse at the Future
Kia’s concept version was recently showcased at the 2024 IAA van show in Hannover, hinting at some toned-down technology compared to earlier CES prototypes. Expect more conventional design elements, like traditional door mirrors replacing the high-tech camera systems seen on the concept.
The PV5 will come with Kia's standard seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty in Europe, aligning with the brand's trusted durability. An autonomous ‘robo-taxi’ version is also planned for future release, showing Kia's ambitions to lead in electric and autonomous vehicle innovation.
What’s Next for Kia’s PBV Lineup?
Following the PV5, Kia plans to introduce larger and smaller PBV models, including the PV7—a large van similar to the Ford Transit—and the PV1, a compact urban delivery vehicle. Both are expected to hit European markets between 2028 and 2029, with Australian launches still unconfirmed.
Kia’s electric future looks bright, and the PV5’s arrival in 2025 marks a significant step toward the company’s goal of delivering innovative, sustainable mobility solutions.
