The 2025 Kia Tasman has been spotted in police livery, hinting at its potential future use in Australian law enforcement and emergency services. A mock-up police version of the Tasman has been unveiled at the Australasian Police and Emergency Service Games in Hobart, where it will be on display until March 22, 2025.

This is the first public appearance of the Tasman in Australia since its media reveal in October 2024, and it will soon make another high-profile showing at the Melbourne Motor Show in April. With its official launch set for July 2025, the Tasman is gearing up to take on the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, and Isuzu D-Max in the competitive ute market.

    Tasman Goes Tactical

While the Kia Tasman police ute isn't operational yet, it comes equipped with: ✔ Black-and-white police livery with chequered bands ✔ Roof-mounted red-and-blue emergency lights ✔ A snorkel for better off-road capability ✔ A lower front bumper bar (potentially for added safety ratings)

The police Tasman is based on the mid-spec X-Line variant, putting it in direct competition with fleet-favorite models like the Ford Ranger XLT and Toyota HiLux SR5, which are already in use by law enforcement.

    Kia’s Growing Police Fleet

Kia Australia has strong ties with law enforcement, with its Sorento SUV already used for general-duty services and the now-discontinued Stinger sedan serving as a highway patrol vehicle in some states. With the Tasman’s turbo-diesel engine and rugged dual-cab design, it could soon join the lineup of utes used by police and emergency response teams.

    Kia Tasman: Power & Performance

The 2025 Kia Tasman is expected to be powered by a 154kW/441Nm 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Customers will have the choice between two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants, catering to both urban and off-road demands.

Kia is targeting 20,000 to 25,000 annual sales of the Tasman, which could make it the fourth-best-selling ute in Australia, following the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, and Isuzu D-Max.
