Kia has officially unveiled the 2026 Kia EV4, a new all-electric model designed to take on the Tesla Model 3, MG 4, BYD Seal, and Polestar 2. With the EV4 sedan confirmed for Australian showrooms, this model marks Kia’s first dedicated electric passenger car, blending sedan practicality with SUV-inspired styling elements.

    Australian Launch Confirmed

Kia Australia has confirmed the EV4 sedan will join its growing range of electric vehicles, with production kicking off in South Korea in mid-March 2025. While a hatchback version will also be produced – built in Slovakia for the European market – it is unlikely to be offered in Australia.

“We’re pleased to confirm the EV4 will join Kia’s battery electric line-up in Australia,” Kia Australia said in a statement, with further details on local variants, pricing and features to come closer to launch.

    Power & Range Options

The 2026 Kia EV4 will be offered in two configurations at launch:

    VariantBatteryRange (WLTP)0-100 km/h
    Base58.3kWh NMC430km (Sedan) / 410km (Hatch)7.4 seconds
    Long Range81.4kWh NMC630km (Sedan) / 590km (Hatch)7.7 seconds

The Long Range EV4 sedan's 630km range surpasses the Tesla Model 3 and MG 4, giving it one of the best driving ranges in its class.

Both versions are powered by a 150kW electric motor (likely with 283Nm torque) driving the front wheels. Unlike the larger EV6 and EV9, which use Kia’s 800-volt architecture, the EV4 adopts a 400-volt system, similar to the smaller EV3.

    Fast Charging Capability

When using DC fast charging, the EV4 can replenish from 10% to 80% in just:

    • 29 minutes for the Base variant
    • 31 minutes for the Long Range variant

    Design: Sedan Meets SUV Style

The EV4 combines sleek sedan styling with SUV-like cladding around the wheel arches, taking design cues from the Polestar 2. It sits on the same E-GMP platform as the EV3 and offers dimensions comparable to the Kia K4 small sedan, but with a slightly higher ride height.

Kia claims the EV4 sedan offers the largest boot capacity in its class, perfect for families and road trips.

    • Larger 19-inch alloy wheels (up from 17 inches)
    • Unique wing-shaped bumpers (front and rear)
    • Sportier three-spoke steering wheel
    • Two-tone black and white seats

    Interior Technology & Features

Kia has packed the EV4 with tech to enhance the driving experience and passenger comfort, including:

    • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
    • 5.4-inch climate control display
    • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen

    Advanced Safety Features

Kia is aiming for a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating (aligned with ANCAP standards) when equipped with all optional safety features. Key safety tech includes:

    • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
    • Lane-keep assist
    • Blind-spot monitoring with Blind-Spot View Monitor

Kia also highlights the EV4’s structural safety, including a multi-rib side impact protection system and a roof designed to withstand more than five times the car’s weight.

    Final Thoughts

The 2026 Kia EV4 brings together long-range capability, cutting-edge technology, and practical interior space in a stylish and compact electric sedan. With its competitive range, generous tech features, and family-friendly practicality, the EV4 is shaping up to be a serious contender in Australia’s growing EV market.
