Hyundai Restores Million-Kilometre Elantra for Lucky Teen Winner
A 2008 Hyundai Elantra with one million kilometres under its belt has been given a fresh start, thanks to an exciting collaboration between Hyundai Canada and the popular Quebec television show Roulez au Suivant. This incredible journey began when Jocelyn Roy, a delivery driver, purchased the Elantra in 2011 from a Canadian dealership. Over the years, Roy racked up an impressive average of 107,000 kilometres annually before eventually trading the trusty vehicle in for a Hyundai Kona.
Roy, known for his meticulous care of his vehicles, never expected the Elantra to last as long as it did. "When you drive as much as I do, you want to protect your investment," Roy said back in 2020. Despite the high mileage, the car never needed any major rebuilds or repairs—a testament to its durability.
Fast forward to 2023, Hyundai Canada decided to give this million-kilometre Elantra a well-deserved revival. In partnership with Roulez au Suivant, they donated more than 100 parts to completely restore the vehicle. The transformation included a full respray in Hyundai’s signature Performance Blue, commonly seen on performance models like the i30 N and Ioniq 5 N, along with a sleek black body-kit accented with red highlights. Under the hood, the Elantra also received a newly built engine, resetting its odometer back to zero.
But the story doesn’t end there. Once the restoration was complete, the Elantra was given away as a prize to 16-year-old Éloïc Lachance, a Quebec native. Although Lachance had applied for the competition to win the Elantra for his first car, his family surprised him by secretly entering on his behalf as well, securing his win.
From delivery workhorse to a shiny new ride for a young driver, this Hyundai Elantra’s journey is nothing short of remarkable.
