Hyundai Achieves Landmark Two-Millionth Vehicle Sale in Australia
Driving Success Down Under: Hyundai Hits Milestone 37 Years in the Making
In a historic achievement, Hyundai Australia has celebrated the sale of its two-millionth new vehicle after a remarkable 37 years in the country's automotive landscape. The momentous occasion was marked with the delivery of a new Hyundai Kona small SUV, adorned in Atlas White and powered by the efficient 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine.
A Journey Rooted in Western Australia
The owner of this significant two-millionth vehicle is Alexander Seed, who received his new Hyundai Kona in Western Australia, courtesy of Morley Hyundai. Notably, Western Australia holds a pivotal role in Hyundai's Australian history, as the brand commenced its operations in the country with a single dealership in Perth in 1986. The journey began with the introduction of the Excel hatchback, representing Hyundai's initial foray into the Australian market.
Hyundai Motor Company Australia officially established itself as a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company in 2003. Presently, Hyundai Australia boasts a nationwide network comprising 163 dealers, and Western Australia remains a crucial part of this extensive network.
A Decade of Growth: From One Million to Two
This significant achievement comes 11 years after Hyundai reached its one-millionth vehicle sale milestone in Australia. The one-millionth vehicle was sold by John Hughes Hyundai in Western Australia, the same dealership that made history by selling the first Hyundai vehicle in Australia.
As of November 2023, Hyundai stands as the fifth top-selling automotive brand in Australia, having sold 70,296 vehicles. The Hyundai Tucson, a mid-size SUV, has taken the lead as the best-selling model for the year, with 19,834 units sold. This is a testament to Hyundai's continued popularity and adaptability in the evolving automotive market.
Ted Lee, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company Australia, expressed gratitude to Hyundai's loyal customers, acknowledging their contribution to reaching this significant milestone. Lee emphasized Hyundai's commitment to delivering exceptional products and services while advancing towards a vision of zero emissions by 2045.
Reflecting on the achievement, Lee stated, "It’s fitting that our two millionth buyer is in the state where it began for our brand 37 years ago, and a special thank you is on the way to our new customer so they can share in our celebrations."
As Hyundai looks back on its rich history in Australia, this milestone serves as a testament to the brand's enduring presence, trustworthiness, and commitment to innovation in the Australian automotive landscape.
