Healing Through Art: Tynan Motors Supports Southern Cancer Care Workshop at Hazelhurst
On Friday 11 April, the serene surroundings of Hazelhurst Art Gallery were filled with creativity, connection and compassion as artist Becky Louise led a powerful Art Therapy Workshop, supported by Southern Cancer Care and proudly sponsored by Tynan Motors.
This initiative is one that sits close to our hearts. Since the passing of Michael Tynan in 2016, Tynan Motors has remained committed to supporting local hospitals, advancing medical research, and providing meaningful support to those affected by cancer through Tynan Motors and the Michael Tynan Challenge. Importantly, we also recognise the vital role carers play in this journey — the family members, friends, and loved ones who walk alongside those facing illness every step of the way. The Tynan family holds a sincere hope that one day, other families won’t have to experience the same pain they did watching their father pass.
Our connection with Becky began in October 2024, when Tynan Motors proudly sponsored her solo exhibition at Hazelhurst Art Gallery. The exhibition was a deeply personal and emotional portrayal of her late partner’s battle with cancer, told through a powerful series of artworks. Becky's ability to translate personal grief into artistic expression resonated deeply with the community, and we knew there was more we could do together.
The April workshop, led by Becky, offered attendees the chance to explore art as a tool for healing and reflection. The day was thoughtfully planned, with a focus on self-expression, emotional release, and peer support in a safe, welcoming space. Attendees worked with a variety of materials and techniques, including single continuous line drawing, while sharing their own experiences or quietly reflecting.
Here is what one participant had to say about the experience:
“The workshop with Becky Louise was so good, enabling me to take away things I can do myself at home. I tried things I would never have tried on my own – for example, single continuous line drawing.
The atmosphere was supportive, giving and encompassing, where people felt safe to share about their cancer journey, whether as the person who had it or the loved one. Everyone there added to the day, led by Becky and her own story sharing.
The food was superb.
Thank you to those who organised this, provided sponsorship, made sure we ate well, had lots of art materials (that we can all purchase ourselves from Officeworks) and ran the day. Much love and appreciation to Becky from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for making this all possible."
The day was a resounding success, filled with inspiration, community spirit and moments of heartfelt connection. We look forward to the next workshop in August and encourage anyone interested in participating to reach out.
At Tynan Motors, we are proud to support initiatives that honour the memory of Michael Tynan and reflect our continued dedication to giving back to the community that has supported us for generations.
