Five-Door Suzuki Jimny Gets a Unique Boot Box – Will It Come to Sydney?
The five-door Suzuki Jimny has officially launched in Japan under the name Nomade, bringing with it an optional boot feature that may remind some of the latest Toyota LandCruiser Prado. While this new accessory is currently a Japan-exclusive, could it make its way to Australia? If so, Sydney off-road enthusiasts may soon have a new way to enhance their Jimny’s cargo space.
For those interested in Suzuki’s rugged off-roader, the five-door Jimny is available now at Tynan Suzuki Kirrawee, where Sydney drivers can experience the XL model firsthand.
A Clever Cargo Solution
One of the quirks of the five-door Jimny is that its rear seats do not fold completely flat, leaving a small step in the cargo area. To fix this, Suzuki Japan has introduced a 10cm-tall boot box as a dealer accessory, which raises the cargo floor to align with the seatbacks when folded down.
This design is similar to the latest Toyota LandCruiser Prado, which also has a raised cargo area in Australia to accommodate hybrid components. However, while Toyota's approach has been criticized for taking up extra space, the Jimny’s boot box is a modular option, meaning drivers can choose whether to install it.
How Much Does It Cost?
In Japan, the boot box is priced at 29,700 yen (~$AU310). That’s on top of the Jimny Nomade’s base price of 2,651,000 yen (~$AU27,160) for the manual variant.
Currently, there’s no confirmation from Suzuki Australia on whether this accessory will be offered locally. It’s also not listed on Suzuki Australia’s website, but we’ll update as more information becomes available.
