Chery Expands Again: Omoda Brand Set to Launch in Australia in 2025 banner

Chery Australia is continuing its rapid expansion, with a new standalone Omoda brand set to arrive in the second half of 2025. This move aligns Australia with global markets where Omoda is already positioned as a fashion-forward, youth-oriented brand.

At Tynan Chery Wollongong, we’re excited to see how this latest addition will broaden customer choice and bring more cutting-edge vehicles to Australian roads. 🚗💨

    Chery’s Multi-Brand Expansion in Australia

Chery recently announced the launch of Jaecoo, another sub-brand focusing on premium, off-road-inspired SUVs, which will debut in May 2025. Now, just months later, it has confirmed that Omoda will follow as a standalone brand.

According to Chery Australia’s chief commercial officer, Roy Munoz:

“Both brands harmoniously complement and contrast each other, providing Australian and New Zealand customers with a greater choice of vehicles.”

What Will Happen to the Current Chery Omoda 5?

The Omoda 5, the first model sold under the Omoda name globally, won’t be the first Omoda-branded vehicle in Australia. Instead, Chery will soon rebrand it as the Chery C5, alongside the electric Omoda E5, which will be renamed the Chery E5.

So, what Omoda-branded models will be coming? That’s still to be confirmed, but Chery Australia is currently researching its international lineup for viable options.

What Omoda Models Could Arrive in Australia?

The Omoda lineup varies by market, but possible contenders for Australia include:

🚙 Omoda C9 – A large SUV similar in size to the Kia Sorento, based on the Exeed RX/Yaoguang. This model has already been approved for Australian sale.

⚡ Omoda C7 PHEV – A plug-in hybrid SUV the size of a Toyota RAV4, revealed at the Beijing Motor Show in 2023.

🚗 Rebadged Chery Sedans – Omoda offers sedans in some markets, but their Australian availability is uncertain.

Where Will Omoda Vehicles Be Sold?

Unlike Chery-branded models, Omoda vehicles will be sold at Omoda Jaecoo dealerships. However, some dealers may offer all three brands (Chery, Omoda, and Jaecoo), while others will focus only on Omoda Jaecoo.

Chery Australia has confirmed that between 30 to 40 Omoda Jaecoo dealerships will be established by the time Jaecoo J7 deliveries begin in May 2025.

Chery’s Global Strategy is Moving Fast

With Chery aggressively expanding its global presence, launching Omoda as a standalone brand in Australia was a strategic move, according to Tim Krieger, Chery Australia’s head of public relations and communications:

“It’s pretty much [a] global strategy, and … we’ve got to make it work.”

Chery’s return to Australia in 2023 has been nothing short of explosive, launching multiple SUVs within a short time frame. Now, with Jaecoo and Omoda joining the lineup, the brand is set for even more growth.
