At Tynan Hyundai Kirrawee, we're always looking ahead to what's next in the Hyundai line-up—and there's exciting news on the horizon for fans of the ever-popular Hyundai Tucson. The next-generation Tucson is expected to showcase a bold, futuristic design inspired by the just-revealed 2026 Hyundai Nexo, according to Hyundai’s global design chief, Simon Loasby.

The new design direction, known as ‘Art of Steel’, features blocky, sculpted styling that brings a powerful, modern presence to the road—and it’s set to influence Hyundai’s mainstream models as early as late 2025.

Art of Steel: Hyundai's Future Design Identity

The 2026 Hyundai Nexo, a hydrogen-powered SUV revealed at the Seoul Motor Show, introduces this distinctive Art of Steel design language that will begin shaping the brand’s broader SUV and passenger vehicle range.

While the Nexo is a niche model with limited availability, its dramatic styling won’t be limited to hydrogen vehicles alone. Hyundai design boss Simon Loasby has confirmed that “you will see more of this design language through late this year, next year.” And when asked specifically if the next Hyundai Tucson would feature this styling, Loasby hinted, "I'm not going to tell you, but you will see."

This strongly suggests that a future Hyundai Tucson—expected to launch sometime in 2025 or 2026—may be the first mainstream SUV to carry these premium, futuristic cues.

What to Expect from the Next Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is currently one of the most popular models at Tynan Hyundai Kirrawee, and this anticipated redesign is set to build on its already impressive reputation. Expect sharper, more chiseled lines, distinctive lighting, and a design that stands out on the road—mirroring some of the visual drama seen on the Nexo.

With Hyundai Australia preparing for future emissions targets and design differentiation across global markets, the Tucson could also benefit from new technology, regional-specific tuning, and more refined cabin upgrades.

Loasby explains that Hyundai doesn’t follow a “family look” across its model range—unlike many competitors, including Kia. Instead, Hyundai is creating a series of “chess pieces,” where each vehicle carries a unique flavour while still belonging to the same brand. This approach helps appeal to diverse customer groups—from younger drivers wanting something stylish and sporty, to families needing practicality without compromise.

What About the New Hyundai Nexo?

While it won’t replace petrol or electric options just yet, the hydrogen-powered Hyundai Nexo has been upgraded with more than 700km of driving range, thanks to a more efficient fuel cell and larger hydrogen tank. It’s due in Australia in 2026, but distribution will likely be limited to select businesses due to the small number of hydrogen refuelling stations currently available.

Only 35 Hyundai Nexo vehicles are currently registered on Australian roads, and with only nine hydrogen stations operating nationally (and eight more in planning), the model remains a niche solution. However, it plays a crucial role in Hyundai's vision for a diverse, forward-thinking future.
