The wait is almost over for the 2025 Subaru Forester, with the all-new sixth-generation model making its Australian debut at the Melbourne Motor Show this weekend. This highly anticipated mid-size SUV is set to launch in mid-2025, bringing with it a range of new features, including a strong hybrid powertrain, a significant boost in safety and technology, and seven versatile variants to suit every need.

    Two Powertrains, Seven Variants

The 2025 Subaru Forester will offer a choice between two powerful all-wheel drive powertrains, including a new hybrid system that improves upon the performance of its predecessor. The hybrid powertrain pairs Subaru’s signature 2.5-litre four-cylinder 'boxer' engine with an 88kW electric motor and a 1.1kWh battery, delivering a smooth and responsive driving experience. The e-Boxer hybrid system retains a mechanically-linked all-wheel drive system, unlike other hybrid models like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid that offer electric rear-wheel drive.

With a claimed range of 1000km on a single tank of petrol, the new Subaru Forester Hybrid promises excellent fuel efficiency for long road trips and urban commuting alike. While official Australian output figures are yet to be released, the system produces 145kW in the U.S. market, giving the Forester a notable edge in terms of power.

In addition to the hybrid, a petrol-only option will be available, also featuring the 2.5-litre boxer engine and all-wheel drive for those who prefer traditional power without the hybrid benefits.

    Safety and Technology Upgrades

The 2025 Subaru Forester takes safety to the next level with Subaru’s updated EyeSight suite of safety features. The system now includes an Emergency Driving Stop System, which can bring the vehicle to a halt if it detects prolonged inattention from the driver—an invaluable addition for safety-conscious drivers.

Subaru has also upgraded the infotainment and tech features, with an 11.6-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity. Wireless phone charging and a 360-degree camera system are standard across the range, making it easier than ever to stay connected and in control.

For hybrid variants, the Forester will also offer a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that provides real-time information about the hybrid system’s status, ensuring drivers are always informed about their vehicle’s performance.

    Variants and Features

The 2025 Subaru Forester will be available in seven variants, each offering a unique set of features to cater to a range of lifestyles.
