2025 Kia EV6 GT: More Power, Smarter Tech, Same Thrills
Kia's fastest electric vehicle has just gotten even better. The 2025 Kia EV6 GT, a high-performance electric hatch-turned-SUV, boasts more power, enhanced features, and a refreshed design inspired by its Hyundai sibling, the Ioniq 5 N. Australian buyers can look forward to its arrival in showrooms between January and March 2025.
More Power, More Thrills
The updated EV6 GT retains its dual electric motor setup but now delivers even greater performance:
- Normal driving mode: 448kW and 740Nm (up from 430kW).
- Launch control mode: 478kW and 770Nm.
Despite the power bump, the 0-100km/h sprint remains unchanged at a blistering 3.5 seconds, just 0.1 seconds behind the Ioniq 5 N.
A new higher-density 84kWh battery pack (up from 77.4kWh) supports these enhancements, offering a slight improvement in range. South Korean lab testing suggests a driving range of 355km, a modest increase from the previous 342km. Based on European WLTP standards, Australian figures may rise to 440km, up from the current 424km.
Fast Charging and New Tech
Charging speeds remain impressive, with Kia claiming a 10-80% recharge in 18 minutes using a 350kW charger. The model is believed to support charging speeds nearing or exceeding 250kW, ensuring quick top-ups for long drives.
One standout feature is the Virtual Gear Shift, borrowed from the Ioniq 5 N. This software-based system simulates the feel of an eight-speed automatic transmission, enhancing the driving experience. Unlike the Hyundai, however, the EV6 GT skips the synthesised driving sounds.
As before, the EV6 GT features:
- Electronically-controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle.
- Adaptive suspension for a customizable ride.
- High-performance brakes, which also enhance regenerative braking, capable of deceleration up to 0.6G.
Refreshed Design and Interior Upgrades
The 2025 EV6 GT embraces design updates seen across the broader EV6 range. Exterior changes include:
- New front and rear bumpers.
- Redesigned headlights.
- Restyled 21-inch alloy wheels hiding green brake calipers.
Inside, updates focus on enhancing comfort and technology:
- Dual 12.3-inch 'ccNC' displays dominate the dashboard.
- A new sports steering wheel with a green GT button.
- Suede and leather sports bucket seats are now power-adjustable (eight ways), with memory and easy-entry functions.
New tech features include:
- Augmented-reality satellite navigation.
- Built-in dash cam.
- Digital key functionality.
- Walk-away door locking.
- A passenger-side mirror that dips automatically in reverse.
Colors and Pricing
The 2025 EV6 GT offers five exterior colors:
- Snow White Pearl
- Aurora Black Pearl
- Runway Red
- Wolf Grey
- Yacht Matte Blue
Australian pricing remains under wraps, but if South Korean trends hold, the updated EV6 GT may retain its current price of $99,590 plus on-road costs.
First Quarter Launch in Australia
The 2025 Kia EV6 GT will launch in Australia's first quarter of 2025, alongside the facelifted EV6 lineup. With its enhanced powertrain, improved range, and upgraded tech, the EV6 GT is set to remain a standout in the high-performance electric vehicle segment.
